East-West Center Economist
Fereidun Fesharaki
To Discuss Iranian Oil and Nuclear Policies
========================
Does Iran need nuclear energy, given its vast oil and gas reserves?
This and other topical questions will be explored by Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, noted East-West Center economist, in a seminar entitled
“Iran and the World Community: Oil Policy Vs Nuclear Energy”
At 6pm Monday, Oct 10,
Intercontinental Hotel
2222 West Loop South.

“The issue of Iran oil and gas reserves and its oil production policy is often misunderstood,” says Dr. Fesharaki. “This presentation is not about the politics of nuclear power, but it presents an analysis of what is happening in the oil and gas sectors and questions whether there is any argument for nuclear energy as was made under the Shah. Lower oil prices… and a natural gas price of less than 20 cents per million BTU are creating an explosion in demand, which is sure to reduce, if not eliminate, exports.”
Senior Fellow of the Economics Studies Group at East-West Center since 1997, Dr. Fesharaki specializes in oil and gas market analysis and the downstream petroleum sector, with special emphasis on the Asia-Pacific sector and the Middle East. He has authored or edited more than 25 books or monographs, and he has been an advisor to major oil and gas companies, both independent and state owned; trading companies; governments in the Middle East, Pacific Basin and Latin America; and the U.S. government.
The program is presented by Asia Society Texas in collaboration with the East-West Center and the Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
