Who we are
Border Crossings, a radio show featuring current events, music, and community activities in the broad context of South Asia, is broadcast every alternate Thursday between 10-11 AM on KPFT 90.1, and webcast at www.kpft.org. It is hosted by Jaspal Subhlok and Nusrat Malik with production assistance from Krupa Parikh, Aswinee Rath, Yunuen Perez, Yaksha Shah, Mark Moll and other volunteers. We are committed to having a broader community involvement in the show. Please contact us if you would like to attend our monthly meetings, join our mailing list, discuss the show, offer suggestions for future shows, or offer help. We are also happy to announce upcoming community events during the show. Border Crossings is co-sponsored by Voices Breaking Boundaries, a non-profit arts organization with a mission to cross borders, incite dialogue, and sustain living art
Nusrat is one of the hostess of the show, she is also the "founder" of the show, means she kind of came up with the idea. She loves to cook, and she is very active that's what we call her "Activist".
Jaspal is also a host. He seems to be in charge of keeping everybody focus, he loves playing racquet ball, and he is a professor at U of H.
Yaksha is our search engine, she has brought great input from google into the show. She has contributed a lot to the show topics. And she also hosts the show that require sharpness and controversial questions, so I’ll be careful if she is interviewing you! After all she is doing her post grad in social studies at UH.
Yunuen is usually the one that picks up your call when you call during the show, she is the one to blame if you don't get to be on the air. She is a tennis player, art lover and mom of Kalyan
Aswinee is the one to blame, most of the times for the music choices, actually if you like the music we play most probably that music was picked by Krupa, if you didn't like it... Aswinee is the one to blame. He is a golf player, a NFL football fan, and he takes care of this website and he is Kalyan's dad.
Although, she does not like to attend our meetings, Krupa is probably the one that helps the show the most, she is in charge of the community calendar, and she has a good music selection. And if we dont get the guest ontime, usually we call her number, and she pretends as if she is the real guest. Just kidding.
Not as crazy as everyone else in the group, Mark has contributed to the show by setting up the website, audio files, Thu night Bar Review and fixing Nusrat's computer (it is important for the show to keep Nusrat happy... you know...)
We don't have an image to represent the other host and vivid contributor to the show Betty Joseph. She came in as a guest to discuss colonization and its effects and then refused to leave, so now she is a host too.
Don't be scare of the drawing, we promise we'll do a better job for you. If you think you can help out in any aspect of the show, we want to hear from you. Contact us at bcrossings@bcrossings.org
